Congrats to Birk Irving and all the other Monster Army
athletes from a successful Grand Prix at Copper Mountain!
This past week/ weekend the world’s most elite snowboarders
and skiers took over Copper Mtn for the first Grand Prix stop of the winter.
Among these top riders stood skiers Birk Irving, Jaxin Hoerter, Abigale Hansen, & Sierra Bowman as well as Snowboarders Rakai Tait, Zoe Kalapos, Chris Corning, Brett Moody, Jullianne ONeill, Kirra Kotsenburg, and Hailee Mattingley. All of our riders came ready to throw down and gave it everything
they had. This first stop of the 2016/17 Grand Prix was far from easy, not only
with the highest level of riding possible, but with the time of year and
conditions riders really had to step it up.
For ski pipe, making it to his very first ever Grand Prix
final and ending up in 5th place, was Birk irving, who successfully
landed two double corks including a 1260 as well as a corked 1080. Abigale
Hansen off a solid 8th Place at the Rev tour last weekend managed to
stomp a run and end up in the top 10. Also a congrats to Jaxin Hoerter, the
second youngest ski competitor, for his first ever double cork in competition.
Snowboarding included not only half pipe but big air as
well, where Chris Corning off two 5th place results already this
season qualified into finals in 4th place but was unable to compete
after a minor ankle twist trying a triple cork 1620 in practice. Its easy to
see a big season ahead with 11 Monster army competitors making it as far as
they did. They can hang with the big dogs, and are nothing to be overlooked. keep an eye on these guys and gals as they
have lots more to bring to the table, this season.
