Monster Army

2018 Simple Session

At the young age of eighteen, Virginia-based Justin Dowell is quickly becoming recognized as one of the fastest rising stars in the BMX world.

Justin competed at Simple Session in Tallinn, Estonia. Though Justin competed in the event last year, he was unable to qualify into the finals. Through a year of working hard and staying on his bike, it was clear that the Justin Dowell of 2018 was a completely different monster.

With moves like twix airs and lookback flairs, Justin was dialed all weekend long and threw down numerous flawless runs. He locked down a spot in the finals and - by multiple years - was the youngest rider to do so.

When the dust had settled, Justin ended up in a respectable ninth place, edging out Larry Edgar - who took top honors at Simple Session 2017. The highlight, however, wasn’t his placing - it was the backflip triple barspin from Justin’s final run. He had never attempted this before and landed it perfectly first try.

Simple Session 2017 was qualifying. Simple Session 2018 was finals. Will Simple Session 2019 be a spot on the podium? It’s definitely heading in that direction!
