For those out there who don’t
know you, tell us a little bit about yourself…
My name is Lucas Foster, I’m
18 years old and I’m a snowboarder born and raised in Telluride, CO.
What was the off season like
for you?
The off season was pretty busy
this year, but it went well. I was snowboarding throughout the end of May so I
didn’t really jump into summer stuff until June. I didn’t really do school in
the winter since I was traveling so much so I finished school first and
graduated, that was nice to get done. I spent lots of time skateboarding,
coaching the skate camp here, went to the X Games in Minneapolis, and just
continued improving myself physically and mentally. I’m feeling better than
ever and enjoyed my time off snow for sure.
Let’s talk about the weather,
get any snow yet? If not, how eager are you to get back out on the mountain? If
you have, how’d it feel to be back out there?
It actually did snow a few
weeks ago, just a light dusting so we couldn’t snowboard, but it did get me
pretty excited. I rode in Park City a few weeks ago on this snow flex jump, not
really legit snowboarding but it was still a lot of fun. I’m hyped to get on
snow though, I really enjoy summers so being off snow isn’t too hard, but I usually
get the itch this time of the year.
What are your plans for the
2017/2018 season?
Same plan as last year but
just turning up the volume a little more. I plan to keep on competing and post
up good results in the events I do, continue filming and keep getting good
exposure, shoot photos, travel, all of that. I really just want to keep
refining my skill, continue pushing my riding and achieve my full potential. As
long as I’m doing everything I can to become a better snowboarder and person,
I’m stoked. But I’d love to get in the backcountry more this season and film
more back there and want to continue to pursue halfpipe snowboarding more, I
have lots of fun in the pipe! I just want to stay well rounded and do a bit of
everything.
With the contest
season quickly approaching, what are you doing to get ready?
I’m doing all sorts of stuff,
I try and approach it from a few different angles. My coach Jason Kannon has
been training me under the CHEK training system for the past 3 years. Those are
my roots and what’s gotten me to where I’m at now. It’s a lot of work in the
gym, building strength and then applying it to speed and power, addressing
imbalances in the body, eating cleaner food, hydration, even some martial arts
and much more. It’s very holistic and it’s a game changer for my riding. So I’ve been doing that all summer and plan to
keep on going with that system. I’ve also been doing some yoga and other
spiritual stuff; I find that to be extremely helpful in not only my riding but
my life. It keeps me very clear and puts everything into perspective, I’m a
much happier person after doing all that. I’m feeling great with my life and
that’s going to really be an advantage this season.
Other than that, I skate
transition a lot which helps, and got into a little bit of mountain biking
which was tons of fun. I’m always trying to improve myself physically and
mentally so that’s my main focus going into every winter.
What’s your go to flavor of
Monster after a day out on the mountain?
Probably just the regular Monster.
The lemonade is good too. It’s super refreshing and definitely does the job!
They all are super good though!
Thanks for catching up!
Anything else you want to add?
Huge thanks to anyone and
everyone who has helped me become a better snowboarder and a better person.
Thanks to my mom and dad for supporting my passions, my whole family, my coach
Jason for taking me under his wing and helping me achieve my full potential,
Bud Keene and Scott Harris, TSSC, all my friends who inspire me and make me a
better human, all of my inspirations and role models, Nate Smith who’s been a
huge help lately with teaching me the ropes of sponsorship, contracts and all
that, and to all my sponsors. Salomon, Smith, Dakine, Overthrow, Skullcandy,
Bootdoctors and of course Monster Army. Love all you guys!
