What’s up, Michael! How has the year been treating you?
This season was definitely one for the books! I got
to travel a ton, meet new people and ride with friends! I started riding with
the Windells Academy crew and it was awesome to travel around the world with
some of my closest friends!
You started the year off with a trip down to New Zealand? Tell us a little more about how that trip went?
So, I started this year by heading down to New
Zealand. I spent a month down there training with my team, Windells Academy. It
was my first time competing internationally, and I ended up taking 3rd in their
National Halfpipe Event! That trip was an amazing experience and it was awesome
to see everyone staying stoked on snowboarding while it was still summer back
in the U.S. New Zealand is an insane place to visit, I definitely recommend
getting down there if you have the opportunity.
Then you
brought the crew back to Colorado for some more madness?
Yea! The Windells crew spent a few months in my
home state of Colorado, which ended up being filled with deep pow days as well
as sunny park days. Nothing beats the resorts in Summit County, I seriously
love it here. You know when everyone is riding together and hyping each other
up? That was every day! Also, Mark Pevny was cutting the pipe at Copper this
year and man does he know how to cut a good pipe. It was the best pipe I’ve
ever ridden!
Next up was Rev Tour at Mammoth, how was that?
Mammoth was all time! I traveled out there for the
Rev Tour, but it was snowing so much that the mountain was closed for the first
five days of the trip. The Windells crew built a gap over the bike path in town
and I met up with Windham Miller and Seth Hill to film a little edit for Monster Army. Next thing I knew, everyone was showing up to the gap and we had
another session going off! It was cool to see everyone come together and make
it a sick day of snowboarding even though the mountain was closed. Despite the
weather, the competition still went down and I ended up taking 11th, which I
was hyped on!
You also were able to learn 3 new 900 variations over the span of
a week. Who was helping you out with
that?
I learned my Front 900’s and Cab 900’s with my
coach, Tommie Bennett. I then came back to Colorado and met up with Bud Keene
for BKPRO. He helped me put my backside 900’s down! Bud has become a huge
mentor to me and he always helps push my riding to the next level.
Favorite tunes to session to and/or jam out to before a contest?
I listen to Flume and Red Hot Chili Peppers a lot.
I’ve also been into the Moana Soundtrack. I have a playlist on Spotify
designated to that.
Awesome! Thank you, Michael!
Any shout-outs you would like to make before you go?
I’d like to thank my parents for all that they do
for me! I’d also like to thank all my friends for their support! Huge thanks to
Monster Army for their support, Fourpoints Bar, Windells Academy, and
Sledgehammers Clothing.
