Competing amongst the best at the Burton US Open

When it comes to snowboarding very few contests stand out like the Burton US Open. It's held in such high regards not only because of its longevity and creativity, but because of the talent of riders and the amount of history that has been made there.

This year was no different, especially when it came to talent. With a field of 30 invited and qualified riders Chris Corning stood amongst the best as dropped in for his first run of semi finals. With only one good day of weather for practice the nerves were high as he had to land his run perfect to make it into finals. And that's exactly what he did; linking together a switch 900 off his toes, a 540 and 720 off the rails and 2 different 1080's. As one of the first to put down a good run Chris stood strong the top of the standings after run 1 and would stay in the top 10 through the end of semifinals.

With a standard morning of waffles and peanut butter and a safely tapped up ankle Chris was amped and ready for finals day at the US Open. Dropping first for finals kept the pressure on but with a flawless top to bottom including a switch 12, a triple cork 14, and a flat 14 Chris showed that he is a force to recon with and a name to remember. Going into run 3 sitting at an amazing 3rd place and landing a new trick for himself the flat fs 1620 chris went for a Hail Mary run but wasn't able to quite put it down. As the last few riders went Corning got bumped down to 5th place which I can't explain how much of a feat it is.

Over in the half pipe we had Zoe Kalapos the 18yr old major has had a great season with numerous top 10s and a great FIS standing. Even though she has added a new trick to her book, decided to keep things consistent with her huge amplitude and back to back 5s and 7s

After landing her first run perfect she held down the first place standing for most of the contest but was slowly bumped down to 7th place, just one spot out of finals. Trust us when we say Zoe is one to watch and has some big things coming!

Congrats to both Chris, and Zoe for killing it and representing the monster army in such a great way at such a huge event!
