Colton Walker Wins, Brian Fox 3rd in Nitro World Games BMX Triple Hit

The second annual Nitro World Games went down at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City on June 24th. Action sports fans packed the arena for an up-close look at some of the most progressive terrain and riding in the world today.

Monster Army BMX riders Colton Walker and Brian Fox competed in the BMX Triple Hit event. Both riders found success in the 2016 event, with Fox qualifying in first and Walker taking the win, but with a new lineup of riders and a higher level of tricks, both would have to step their games up significantly to land on the podium.

Based on winning the previous year, Colton automatically advanced into the final round. Brian, however, had to compete against twelve of the best riders in the world, with only the top seven advancing. Brian threw down a solid run - a backflip barspin on the first, a 720 on the second, and a perfect double backflip on the third - which put him in fourth. Step one was complete.

When it came time for the final round, whether it was live on NBC or under the Utah sun, the world was watching. Each rider was given two runs, with only the highest scoring run counting.

Brian nailed his dream run first try. A backflip barspin on the first, a 1080 on the second, and a double backflip on the third - essentially an upgraded version of his qualifying run. This is the first time we’ve seen a double backflip immediately after a 1080. To say Brian was stoked would be an understatement.

Colton had been planning his run for weeks - a backflip barspin to tailwhip on the first, a 360 double downside tailwhip to barspin on the second, and a twix to whip on the third - an insane trick that only Colton has landed. His first run was going perfectly until he slid out of the twix to whip. He would have one more attempt at pulling his run for a shot at victory.

The pressure was on. Colton was the last rider to go. It was all or nothing. Perfect backflip barspin to tail whip. Perfect 360 double downside tailwhip to bearskin. PERFECT twix to whip! The crowd went wild and nobody was shocked when the scores came in. Nitro World Games officially had its first repeat champion!

When it was all said and done, Colton Walker took first, Nick Bruce took second, and Brian Fox took third - a true testament that the new generation of BMX contest riders have arrived.

Brian and Colton will look to continue their winning ways early August in Minneapolis, as they both compete in their first X Games. The future is bright and there’s no telling just how far these two young shredders can take it!
