FISE in Montpellier, France
turned twenty this year and Monster Army riders Colton Walker, Brian Fox, and Bryce Tryon were on hand to compete and enjoy the festivities. The scorching
heat didn’t stop the madness from ensuing over the action-packed week.
Based on his impressive overall placing in 2016,
Colton Walker was pre-qualified for the park event. Brian Fox and Bryce Tryon
had to qualify with the rest of riders for their shot at victory. Brian Fox
kicked things off with a banger run that included a 1080 over the box jump, but
later slipped up in his second run. FISE is using a new system where both runs
count (in the past, only the highest score counted), so this unfortunately kept
Brian from moving on in the competition. Bryce Tryon - who happened to be the
youngest rider in the competition - stuck two solid runs and, for the first
time in his young career, qualified for the prelims, placing ahead of many
well-known top riders.
Once it came time for park finals, Colton Walker
impressed the massive crowd with moves like a flipwhip to barspin and a 360
tailwhip to barspin, which earned him a top-ten finish.
When it came time for the spine mini competition
- a staple at FISE: Montpellier - Colton, Brian, and Bryce all got involved.
This was Bryce’s first time competing in the event, but he still put in
multiple solid runs and got a taste of just how insane the French crowd can be.
Brian Fox stole the show in qualifying by throwing down a perfect 1080 over the
spine - a first for the event. This solidified his spot in the finals, where he
and Colton Walker would compete against fourteen of the best riders in the
world.
Brian started finals with another 1080 over the
spine, but this time built a whole run around it. Brian didn’t pull everything
he wanted, but gave a preview of what the future holds for him in spine mini
competitions. Also, in the best trick contest, Brian successfully pulled the
first ever flair barspin to barspin back. He has been working on this trick for
a while and managed to pull it perfectly second try. Brian finished the contest
with a respectable 8th place.
Colton Walker brought his signature style to
spine mini finals and nailed countless back-to-back tailwhip and barspin
combinations. He sealed the deal with a flairwhip to barspin and ended up
taking 4th place - just a few points shy of making it on the podium.
All in all, it was a successful weekend in
France for Colton Walker, Brian Fox, and Bryce Tryon. The FISE World Tour
continues in Budapest, Hungary this August.
