Kyle Turner is Athlete of the Week

Author: Tim Remick

How's it going, Kyle? Tell us how 2017 is treating you so far? Having fun, I hope?

Yeah, 2017 has been pretty fun so far. There's been a lot of rain, so I haven’t been able to skate outdoors as much as I would like to. But other than that, it's been pretty sick.

How did you first get into Skateboarding and around what age was that at?

I started skating when I was in middle school because that was me and my friends only way to get around. Around 9th grade is when I would get dropped off at the skatepark, and just stay the whole day.

What got you into competition skating and what is your favorite comp to enter

I started skating contests, because my friends would go on these skate trips and compete after they got done skating all these parks on the way up, and I was like man I want to do that. I preffer park over anything else but I don't really have a favorite type of skate competition, to be honest I'm not very much of the competition skater.

You may have had a less than desired result in the Vans Pro skate park series, but competing at such a high level must have been a good learning experience for you, yeah?

Yeah I wasn't really able to skate as well as I wanted to but being up there able to skate with all those guys was really cool and I'm looking forward to the next Vans Skatepark Series.

Who are your biggest influences when it comes to how you skate?

I would say Rune Glifberg, Daan Van Der Linden, and Curren Caples.

Where is your go-to local skate spot?

I usually skate at Alga Norte my local park, and The DC Monster warehouse just because they're both so close to my house.  I skate a lot with Jimmy Wilkins, Shea Donavan, and Pierre-luc Gagnon, I'm super lucky to be able to skate with these guys regularly, as they have definitely had a big impact on the way I skate.

Right on man! Thanks for your time and we wish you the best this year in all your endeavors! Any shout outs you would like to make before heading out?

Yeah big shout out to my sponsors (CB. SupplyCo, 187 Killer pads, Bones Wheels flow, Monster Army) , Pierre Luc Gagnon for always helping me with everything, and my homie David Fosman for driving me everywhere.
