Battling the best and the worst weather at mammoth mountain for the U.S. Grand Prix.
Rough conditions and tough competition awaited our 13 riders here at the U.S. Grand
Prix Olympic Qualifier in Mammoth Mountain CA. With an already insane winter here at
the resort it was no question there was chance for increment weather. Unfortunately this
was exactly the case here for the athletes as three weather days postponed events and
ultimately canceled mens Ski Slopestyle leaving Alex Hall, Ryan MCelmon, and Ethan Swadburg all to sit this one out.
Even with the tough conditions our rider left nothing on the line and gave it there best.
Ending just one spot out finals was Army Captain Zoe Kakapos who put down a run but
didn’t seem to have enough to make it into the top 6. Ending right outside the finals as
well was pipe skier Jaxin Hoerter who threw down a huge double cork but didn’t seem
to have the technicality to get his way into the finals. Also barely getting squeezed out of
finals was Birk Irving, coming off a recent top 5 podium at X-Games he sent it but the
weather kept him from throwing his second double. All all three of these riders were so
close and we know well see them in the finals at the next one.
For women skiing we had Caroline Claire and Rell Hardwood riding in slope, and Abigale Hansen in the pipe. All three of our ladies didn’t hold back and ended up taking
28th, 19th, and 15th respectively.
We had 5 snowboarders trying to hold there own against olympians like Shaun White,
Stale Sandbeck, and jamie Anderson. These athletes were Chris Corning, Hailee Mattingley, Kirra Kotsenburg and Rakai Tait all giving it there best against the best in the
industry.
