Stop #3 of the NorAm
tour takes Monster Army athletes to the infamous Calgary Olympic Park in
Alberta, Canada. Skiers from around the world came together to compete in this
AFP Gold slopestyle and halfpipe competition. A perfect halfpipe gave the
athletes a great chance to showcase their skills. The slopestyle course, which
was on the smaller side, forced athletes to dig deep into their bag of tricks
to put together a technical run. With a strong showing from Monster Army, we
were able to get some great results!
The woman's Ski
Halfpipe competition started out the week with athletes: Svea Irving, Abigale Hanson, and Sierra Bowman. Svea had a very strong showing landing 2 clean runs
qualifying her in 4th for finals. Svea finished up in 3rd place. Abigale came
into finals after qualifying in 2nd place. Abigale finished up in 2nd. Sierra
unfortunately just missed finals and came in at 11th place.
Next was the men's Ski Halfpipe competition with Birk Irving, Jaxin Hoerter, Sam Ward, Hunter Carey, Dylan Ladd, and Cameron Brodrick. Birk with a couple very clean runs qualified to finals with 2nd place
in heat one. Birk finished up in 3rd place. Sam missed finals by just a few
spots getting him a very respectable result of 17th place. In heat 2 we had
Jaxin qualifying for finals in 2nd who ended up with 5th place
followed by Dylan in 8th and then Cameron in 10th. Hunter finished off with 9th
place in his heat.
Next up was woman's Ski Slopestyle with Svea and Rell Harwood. Svea came in at 10th place with Rell jut missing the podium with a 4th
place.
Finishing
off the week was the men's Ski Slopestyle competition with Birk Irving, Sam Ward, Hunter Carey, Dylan Ladd, Ryan McElmon, and Ethan Swadburg. Birk ended up
in 6th place with Ethan just a couple spots ahead in 4th place. Sam put down
two solid runs and landed himself in 17th place. Hunter finished up In 36th
followed by Dylan in 37th. Ryan had a bit of trouble with speed and wasn't
quite able to put one down.
