Remy Juboori is Athlete of the Week

Author: Tim Remick

What’s up Remy? How has your Summer been treating you?

It’s been great! Scored some waves at home in La Jolla and down South in Mexico. I am currently in Peru for the WSL 1000 event. After Peru, I’m going to Arica, Chile for the WSL 3000 contest and the waves should be really good. There is a big swell coming so I’m excited to use my step-ups for the first time this summer.

Coming off of some injuries from 2016, how are you feeling now in 2017?

2016 was a rough year for me, constantly in and out of the hospital. However, I got the approval from my doctor to start training again during March this year. Now I’m feeling really good this year and hope to keep improving.

How motivated are you to come into the year fresh and gunning for some solid contests and surf trips?

I have never been more motivated to compete and travel. After coming off these injuries I feel really grateful to be healthy again and definitely want to take advantage of these opportunities while I am still young.

You currently attend Cal Poly SLO and compete on their school team. How did the team fair at NSSA Nationals this year?

This year Cal Poly Surf Team finished 2nd in the South West conference. At NSSA nationals we tied for 2nd place with the University of Florida.

You also have some cool trips lined up. Could you tell us what you have planned for those?

After I come home from Chile I’m going straight down to Mexico for the next South swell. I am planning on going to Virginia for the ECSC contest in August, as well as Indonesia in September.

Favorite music to listen to before jumping in the water. Go…

My favorite music before surfing would definitely be G-Herbo or J Cole.

Awesome! Thank you, Remy! Do you have anyone you would like to thank/shout-out before you go?

I would like to give a huge thanks to Monster Army for all the support these last few years. I also want to thank Sharpeye Surfboards and Xcel Wetsuits.
