Zoe Kalapos is Athlete of the Week

Author: Tim Remick

Welcome, Zoe! How was your summer and how has your 2017 Season been so far?

Hi! My summer was super relaxing.  With my down time for the summer I went to our house on Lake Michigan and spent my time relaxing on the beach, paddle boarding, biking, and lots of reading.  So far my 2017 season has been really busy.  I competed at the Copper Grand Prix and Copper Rev Tour.  Since then I have been doing a lot of pipe riding at Copper with the U.S. Team and as of lately also some pow riding in the backcountry.

How did your off-season training go and what have you been up to in order to prepare for this seaon?

My Off-season training went well!!  I spent 3 weeks in Mt. Hood with the U.S. Snowboarding Team and it was so amazing!  The rest of July and August I spent at my house in Michigan with my family.  From there I went to New Zealand and spent 2 months training there!  New Zealand was amazing and super progressive for me.  Heading into this seaon after a full fall and summer of riding and working out definitely helped me a ton!

Last season you came away with a win at the USASA National Championships. You must’ve been pretty stoked!

Winning Nationals last year was super exciting.  It has also been one of my favorite contests just because it's so fun and I feel like theres never any pressure during that time.

What are your goals coming into 2017 Season?

My goals for the 2017 season include learning a lot of new tricks, hopefully podium at the Rev Tour, and make finals at the last few events of the season.  The burton U.S. Open has always been my favorite event and making finals there is definitely one of my biggest goals!

A normal day on the hill in the life of Zoe Kalapos look like...

I typically get up around 7:30, make a nice breakfast, be at the hill by 8:30!  I like to do a good warm-up, and put on some good music before I head up the lift.  I usually take a cruiser lap before heading to the pipe just to get my legs warmed up.  The rest of the day i spend riding halfpipe with my friends.

Where is your favorite mountain to visit?

My favorite mountain to visit is definitely Laax.  It's in Switzerland and is one of the biggest, most beautiful mountain I've ever been to.

Favorite Food to have before a day on the hill?

My favorite Food before a long day on hill is toast is toast with banana & peanut butter on it with a clementine on the side.  It gives me long lasting energy for the hill and tastes amazing.

Awesome! Thank you very much, Zoe! Best of luck with accomplishing your goals this season and we’re excited to see you kill it! Any “thank yous” you would like to send out?

Thank you so much!  I'd like to thank everyone who supports and follows me, especially my parents and Monster Army.

So far this season, Zoe has claimed a 3rd place finish at the U.S. Rev Tour @ Mammoth and a 7th at the USGP @ mammoth.  Despite being 1 spot shy of qualifying for the finals, she still put on a stellar performance!  She will be heading to Vail, CO this week to compete in the Burton U.S. Open where she is gunning for a podium spot in Womens Halfpipe.  We wish Zoe, as well as all Monster Army Athletes in contention, the very best, to stay safe and to have fun!
