So Chris, let's start with a bit about your 2015/16 season?
Chris -
My season has been pretty crazy. I did not think it was going to be anything
like it was. I progressed a lot and was able to land my runs in the contests
that counted. It started off a little rocky but later in the year it started to
mellow out and become awesome! Everything just started to fall into place and
it put in contention for a spot on the U.S Pro team and I ended up getting it a
couple weeks back, I was so happy.
Monster
-
Awesome well congrats on that! so is it true you turned down
the US rookie team? If so why?
Chris -
Last year I did turn down the U.S Rookie team for a few reasons. I wanted to
stay with my past coach (Nichole Mason) because it was working really well. I
also wanted to keep a coach for more than a few months so I felt comfortable
and really wanted to progress. I think we made the right choice and now it has
put me in this spot that has been my goal for a long time!
Monster
-
Ok that does make sense, so do you have any exciting news to
share?
Chris - Thank you, yes I do
have some exciting news to share and I am so happy to tell you guys that I am
now officially part of the U.S Pro team! I did not think it was going to happen
this quick but it is going to push me even harder to keep pushing my riding!
Monster
-
Wow, US Pro team that's amazing, how's that feel to be one of
the youngest? Do you think riding next to other Olympians and older riders will
help push you? And what does it mean to you to be on the pro team?
Chris -It feels fantastic being apart of the U.S Pro team. I try
not to think about that I am one of the youngest because I like to push myself
to be as good as the people that are older than me on the team. I feel apart of
the team and just trying to prove that I can work hard and progress with the
top elite athletes that have been on the team for a while
Riding next to all these amazing
athletes will push me really hard. I will be able to follow their lead and see
how they do it and incorporate what they do into what I do to try and keep up
with them.
It means so much to me to be apart
of the team. It shows me that what I am doing is right and that I have a chance
at this. It is an amazing opportunity and I am going to make every minute worth
it! I also am very proud that I will be representing my country even a little
bit more now!
Monster
-
Sodoes this mean you have aspirations for the 2018 Olympics?
If so how long have you had that goal?
Chris -It means so much to me to be apart of the team. It
shows me that what I am doing is right and that I have a chance at this. It is
an amazing opportunity and I am going to make every minute worth it! I also am
very proud that I will be represent my country even a little bit more now!
I have not really had the goal to
go to this Olympics coming up because I did not expect any of this to happen
this fast. I do now have the goal to go. I am working really hard and following
my teammates and how they do it so I can give myself the best opportunity I can
to go to the 2018 Olympics.

Ok that's amazing, and we're really proud of you, so what's
next? Is it true you've been training out at mammoth with the team already? And
big new tricks or goals?
Chris -Well what’s next is the summer, staying healthy and
hitting up all the camps the U.S team is putting on for us, progressing, having
fun, and spending as much time with my family and girlfriend as I can during
the times I have off.
Yep I have been out here in
Mammoth for about 2 weeks. Yeah I think some of my goals are to get a 16, do
some more front 14’s, and maybe try some cab 14’s. Its been a good couple weeks
so far and can’t wait for more to come.
Monster
-
Lastly what's your summer looking like? Do you need a rest or
you trying to continue the moment through?
Chris -My summer looks pretty busy. I have the rest of the
time here in Mammoth, a week or so in hood, a week in Japan, and then three
weeks in Australia, two weeks in Stubai Austria, and in between all of that
taking time of resting and stuff like that.
Monster
-
Thanks for your time, and congrats on everything!! Anything
you'd like to finish with or people to thank?
Chris -Yeah I would like to thank Monster Army for the
amazing help with everything! Pushing me to get better and the amazing company
you guys are. Thanks to U.S snowboarding for the opportunity and sending out
lots of love to my parents for helping me achieve my dream.
