Colton Walker - The Future of BMX

Author: Kyle Noble

We first met Colton Walker back in 2013 at The Kitchen during one of the first Recon Tour stops. Colton went on to win that stop and proceeded to take 3rd later that year at the final. Since then Colton has worked his way up through the Monster Army program and also become a major threat to the podium at almost every major pro contest.  Colton's talent has reached a level of consistency that many veteran pros can only dream of obtaining, having the ability to throw some of the craziest bangers in BMX run after run without skipping a beat. It's safe to say that Colton has a very bright future ahead of him and that he is on the road to becoming one of the biggest names in the sport. We are so happy to have Colton as a part of the Monster Army family and cannot wait to see what the future holds for him!

Check out Colton's latest edit from his recent trip to Florida:

We recently had some time with Colton to catch up with him and talk about how the last year has been for him and what his plans are for the near future. Check out some of what he said in the interview below!

What would you say was the biggest accomplishment for yourself this year?

Winning the Recon Tour Overall PRO Championship was definitely the my biggest accomplishment this last year. It's something I worked very hard to achieve.

How did it feel to win the Recon Tour overall title this year?

AMAZING, it felt like all of the hard work I’ve been putting into my riding over the last few years really paid off.

What has been your favorite part about competing in the Recon Tour?

Honestly my favorite part has been just making it out to every stop. Not only to get to ride at each stop but to see a lot of the different people I have grown close to over the past couple of years and to meet new friends.

What makes the Recon Tour different from other contests you’ve competed in?

There is definitely a different energy at Recon Tour versus other major contests. It’s cool how everyone ranging from major pros to up and coming amateurs have the opportunity to compete, this freedom is something rarely found at big contests here in the U.S. now a day.

In what ways has being a part of the Monster Army program helped you to develop yourself as a rider over the last couple of years?

It definitely helped me to get the support I needed to be able to get to to a lot of contests that I would not have been able to get to on my own. It also really helped to gain myself more exposure in the BMX community that I would not have had otherwise.

What advice would you give to other young riders trying to make it into the professional ranks?

If you love it do it, there’s nothing stopping you, stay positive and never give up. This positivity and persistency is the only reason I am where I am today. Things will get tough and not always turn out how you want them but you just have to keep your head up and stay positive through those rough times. How will you know if you never try.

What are some of your goals for next year?

First off, I want to get to all of the Recon Tour stops again. I also want to make it to more overseas contests and to keep progressing my riding at the same time.
