Hanna Faulhaber has been on a roll, this young-gun has surprised everyone, even herself, with her outstanding results this year and that's why she is this week's Athlete of the Week. Read her interview below,

Hey Hanna, tell us how the season wrapped up?

This past season has been amazing. It was my first season competing in the FIS level. Going into this season I had really low expectations. I was really nervous to compete against people who were older than me and had more experience than me. I had several ups and downs this season. I won a Rev Tour, came third in Aspen Open, and 1st in USASA nationals, struggled with one of my tricks and had a few crashes. But, overall this season has been the complete opposite and way better than I thought it would be.

It’s pretty cool you landed on the podium for all three Nationals events, slope, pipe and rail jam, how did that feel?

Coming 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in three different events at nationals was awesome and very unexpected. Going into Nationals I was thinking to just have fun. I had a big crash the week before and took a few days off from training. This past season I was mainly focused to getting my Pipe run better and didn't practice slope as much so Rail Jam and Slopestyle was totally unexpected. I went into both of those comps not thinking that I would podium. So when I did I was shocked. It was my first time to be on the podium in all of the events that I competed in.

What did you learn from this past season?

This past season I learned that you can go in to a season not expecting anything and then you can achieve a lot. I also learned that hard work pays off. This past season I worked so hard to make my skills as a skier better, especially Pipe.

What can we expect next from you?

This upcoming year I will be skiing even more than I have this past year. I will continue to train and focus more towards the Halfpipe than anything else. I may compete in a few new competitions and am hopeful for some similar results as this past season.

Do you get to enjoy Summer and wind down?

This summer I won't be relaxing and enjoying the warm weather. My schedule will be packed with skiing this summer. I will be doing a few camps in Mammoth and Aspen and then traveling to New Zealand to visit family. I'll also do some training and maybe a competition on the South Island when in New Zealand.

What’s your go-to chill activity?

I never have time to relax, whether I am skiing, dryland training, mountain biking, or doing schoolwork.

Favorite food…

When I go down to New Zealand to visit my family and ski. My grandparents usually cook us food. My favorite dish from my Opa is his pancakes. Both of my grandparents are from Holland, so he makes us dutch pancakes. These pancakes are kind of like a crepe but thinner. My favorite thing to put inside of the rolled up pancake is lemon and sugar. My favorite dish from my Oma is her meatballs. These are not ordinary meatballs. They are squished and fried in butter.

Favorite music to ski to?

While I am skiing I love to listen to Khalid. This music helps me to relax before a competition or before training.

When you were younger and people asked you what you wanted to be when you grow up, what did you say?

When I was young and in Elementary School, I have no idea why but, I wanted to be an astronaut.

Any last thank yous or shout outs?

Some shoutouts that I would like to give are my family for supporting me, AVSC coaches (Greg, Sam, Tae, Ray, Eric), all of the staff at AVSC for helping me with anything that I needed, my teammates at AVSC, the awesome girls that ski pipe with me (you know who you are) and Basalt High School staff and teachers for putting up with me missing so much school. I would also like to thank all of my sponsors, Aspen Snowmass, Strafe Outerwear, and especially you guys at Monster.
