Author: Olivia Reed

Monster Army's Gabby Bryan won back-to-back wins at the Papara Pro Open in Tahiti. We caught up with the champ to have her tell us about it! Catch it all below.

Tell us what happened, in your own words?

Going into Tahiti I really wanted to secure my Spot in the WSL World Jr. Championships this year after already winning sunset earlier this year. So I was really happy to win and especially winning both events in Tahiti was super awesome!

Can you explain the two different events (juniors vs. pro) to us?

The Jr Pro. is under 18 and it goes to your end of the year total in your own region, and if you are 1 or 2 in the end of the year rankings you get a spot into the Word Jr. Championships. And the Qs event is all ages and the points from that will help you make it onto the World Championship Tour!

Did you think you were going to win? How does it feel?

I definitely knew that I had a good chance at winning these events, but Surfing is such a unique sport the Ocean plays such a huge role in our sport that anything could happen. So when I won both I was super happy and gave me a lot of confidence for the rest of the year.

What’s next for you?

For the rest of the year, I am going to do some bigger Qs events around the world and now that I secured my spots into world juniors I will be doing that! And hopefully a couple of free surf trips around the world would be fun!
