How’s the big news been treating you, any major changes to your season or 2020 schedule?

I feel like I have been able to keep a positive mindset about the whole thing however, It has made a huge change to the schedule and plans for me for 2020. I originally had about 5 or 6 overseas contests planned to compete in. With everything coming to a halt, not only has it changed my schedule but it has changed the way that I am training and how I am preparing for the next year ahead, rather than the individual contests throughout this year.

What does plan B look like for the next couple of months?

Plan B is definitely different to how I usually operate, but I am very fortunate to have a ramp at home in my backyard that I can ride! My plan is just to use this time to focus on riding and training so that I can continue to progress and be ready to go as soon as everything is back on its feet and not have this pandemic as a setback.

How are you training at home or in an isolated setting?

As I was just saying, fortunately I have a spine mini ramp and have recently been working hard to get a box jump going in my little compound at home. I have been riding most days, however it is very weather dependent as we are heading into winter at the moment. Outside of riding I've been making sure to keep up my fitness and training by going for runs, doing some interval/strength type workouts. I am just very grateful I have a place to ride as well as train in this terrible time we’re all living in at the moment.

When you’re not training what are you doing with the down time?

When I’m not riding or training I am usually working. As I am an electrician by trade we are still deemed as essential workers and I have been lucky enough to be able to keep working through this time. Outside of that though, even though it doesn’t leave much time I like to spend time with my girlfriend, listen to music and smash a heap of Netflix!

What’s the go to snack you’ve stocked up on?

We’ve managed to not have to stock up a whole lot but go to snack is definitely Peanut Butter on toast!

Be honest, what’s in the Netflix que…binging any bad tv or movies?

Definitely guilty of too much Netflix! Hands down the best 2 series at the moment is Peaky Blinders and the Wutang series, I just finished both of those and absolutely loved them! Next up is Ozark then Hip Hop Evolution.

Any advice for people struggling to stay focused on training right now?

It is a really hard time at the moment life as we know it has changed and motivation can definitely be a struggle at times! The thing that keeps me going and keeps the fire and motivation in myself burning is thinking back to why we do what we do in the first place. We do what we do because we love it and it is our passion and it makes us happy and is a challenge. This time may be a bit slower and more of a challenge than normal but it is important to think about what your goals and aspirations were before this. Think about these every single day, Envision your goals and where you want to be and use that hunger to fuel your motivation. Every bit of hard work you put in now will be worth a lot more at the other end.

What are some other productive things you can work on at home? (cleaning your room, yoga, etc.)

One good thing about this whole thing is being able to spend a lot more time with my family which is really good, and also means a lot more house chores and cleaning my room more often that’s for sure! Other than that stretching is great and I am on a Quest to become a beast with a kendama… haha!
