World Cup Word Up w/ Charlie Harrison

Author: Olivia Reed

Charlie Harrison takes 4th places at the first World Cup of 2019 in Slovenia. We're stoked to see him earn his highest finish yet. We caught up with Charlie to hear what he had to say about it,

You just finished 4th in a World Cup, that’s your highest result, right?

Correct, my finish in Maribor was my highest World Cup result. It was a dream come true honestly. The whole weekend went really well, things with my team are just clicking at the moment. The result was just the icing on the cake. It was so amazing to go on Instagram after the day was over and see how many people were stoked to see me do well! It was extremely humbling, and made me so grateful to be in the position that I'm in.

Tell us about the race!

The race was awesome! I think Maribor is my new favorite track, it's got a bit of everything. We went over a week early to race the IXS cup which went smoothly as well. Previous to this trip, I had never been to Maribor, so going over early and getting that warm up race in really helped me get used to the track and dirt. I really enjoyed my time there. I couldn't be happier with my team, sponsors, and team mates, so I've found recently a whole new level of joy from being at the races.

What did you learn for the next race?

I learned a lot about line choice from this race. The track was really hard to read, and you didn't know if it was the kind of track where you should be creative to get out of the main line, or just ride the main line as fast as you possibly can. I learned that you should try everything in case one line goes away. There was a few times during timed runs between the two races where I wanted to switch to a line for racing due to the line that I had been riding getting destroyed, but I couldn't switch, because I hadn't tried the other lines, so I didn't know what to expect.

How does it feel? Are you more motivated than ever to land on the podium?

Getting my first World Cup podium at Maribor was a dream come true. It made my gratitude for everything that is going on with my career at the moment sky rocket. I'm very thankful to be able to get to do what I do, and am so proud to be able to work with the people that surround me.

What can we expect next from you?

I'm not too sure honestly! Just trying to take things as they come and ride this one out. There's a lot of productive, positive things going on with my program at the moment, so hopefully that will result in consistent, solid finishes for the rest of the season.
