Devin Kjaer is Athlete of the Week

Author: Robby Burleson

Devin Kjaer from Aptos, CA is this week's Athlete of the Week. We got a chance to catch up with Devin and ask him a few questions about his 2016 MTB season, and his plans for the future.

How is the 2016 MTB season going for you?

My 2016 season has been going pretty good, very happy on my results and how consistent they are. Racing the World Cups has been a great learning experience. It's been a lot of fun getting to travel to new places and meet new people. I feel like I'm getting better and faster.

What are your plans and goals for the rest of the season?

For the rest of my season I plan on finishing the Pro GRT series, Crankworx Whistler, hopefully a couple more World Cups, and if the opportunity presents itself the UCI World Championships in Italy!

Who are your biggest influences?

Tyler McCaul and Kyle Jameson have both been big influences for downhill, free riding and dirt jumping. For downhill racing I look up to guys like Jared Graves and Aaron Gwin.

What are some of your recent accomplishments?

Some of my recent accomplishments are a 14th at the past world Cup in Leogang Austria and 5th at the last two Pro GRTs.

How did you train in the off season to prepare yourself for this year?

Training in the off season this year was a little different with all the rain we got. I spent time in the gym. I did lots of muddy downhill shuttle days and lots of free ride/trail days too. The rainy winter and mud day definitely helped me with the muddy conditions at the Lourdes and Leogang World Cups.

What other sports do you do in the off season?

In the off season I ride Moto as much as I can. I raced motocross when I was younger and love to swing the leg over the moto here and there and keep those skills sharp.

Current Setup?

My current setup is a Specialized Demo 8, with the Fox 40 and X2 air shock, with full Shimano drive train and brakes, Deity bars and stem, ODI grips, Crank Brothers pedals, and Maxxis tires.

If you could invent a flavor of Monster, what would it be?

If I could invent my own flavor of monster I would do a Watermelon Rehab.

Who would you like to thank?

I would like to thank my family for supporting my dream to race at this high of a level and believing in me. Also, I would like the thank Specialized bikes, Fox Shocks, Shimano, Deity, Crank Brothers, ODI grips, Maxxis tires, Fly Racing gear, Family Cycling Center and Monster!
