Jordan Jarvis Introduces the "JJ Scholarship"

Author: Jason Todd

Dubbed the JJ Scholarship, Monster Army standout, Jordan Jarvis recently announced plans to give back to her fellow female motocross cohorts. With the world, and state of motocross—and all action sports—currently in limbo, Jarvis still plans to vacate her presence in amateur racing to establish herself in the professional ranks. Before she departs, the SGB Kawasaki rider has found a way to give back to the sport, and more importantly the class, that has helped build the rider—and person—she has become. We recently caught up with “JJ” to get the low down:

Jordan, the JJ Scholarship was recently announced. Tell us about it!

“During this year’s Supercross Futures season I had racked up quite a few On Track School certificates. Because I already graduated [high school] last year, I unfortunately, can’t use those certificates that I won, so I reached out to On Track to see if I could possibly give them out to somebody who deserved it. The folks over at On Track School were completely down with me giving what I had won to someone else who does deserve, and is in need of a little extra help. After talking with them and going back-and-forth for a little bit we worked out a plan on how to give my certificates out in a fair and easy way so everybody has a chance to win the scholarship.”

For those who may not understand, what exactly is On Track and how have they been a part of your amateur career?

“On Track School is an AdvanceED accredited, private virtual school servicing kindergarten through twelfth grade. I unfortunately never got a chance to use On Track School. I went to a public school, I was never homeschooled.”

So you know first-hand how strenuous balancing school and being an athlete can be!

“Very. The only way I could continue riding like I did was to maintain good grades and stay out of trouble. I was able to do both, and I am very proud to say that I graduated with a 3.8 GPA. It was very difficult on me though. If I can help someone else by making it a little easier, I will do so. Maybe by helping someone else I can keep them in school.”

Right on. So the JJ Scholarship, fill us in on some details and who should apply!

“This scholarship applies to all women on two wheels. It’s very simple to enter all you have to do is; Post a video explaining how the JJ Scholarship to On Track School will help you achieve your academic goals, tag (@jjjordan30) and On Track School (@ontrackschool) Instagram accounts, and use the hashtag #OnTrackSchoolJJ. I’m doing a total of three of these giveaways. Each scholarship is worth $500 (no cash value) and I will be choosing the winner of this first contest on May 31st. The other two dates have not been released just yet.”

The Women’s class has obviously been an important part of your career, but you have higher aspirations than that, is this scholarship kind of a way for you to demonstrate that to other female riders as well?

“The Women’s class has gotten me to where I am today. This is a way for me to try to help the girls coming up now, so that they can continue to reach and accomplish their goals while still receiving the best schooling possible.”

That’s awesome, we’re really proud of you and your impact on women’s racing. As you make your inevitable departure from the amateur ranks, is there a message you hope to leave behind for other female racers who may be watching you?

“Anything is possible, and I mean that completely. The girls and women in this sport have to work so much harder than the guys, just to get a fraction of publicity that guys do. If you work harder than everyone else and never give up, people will take notice and it will go a long way.”

Good stuff. Thanks for chatting, Jordan. Keep us updated on the next two giveaways for this scholarship!

“Of course. I will keep you updated for sure. Thank you for reaching out and I look forward to seeing all of the entries!”
