Off Duty: Lucas Foster

Author: Olivia Reed

There's been a lot of changes the last few weeks, so we wanted to use this time to catch up with our athletes and and find out what they're doing, while they're Off Duty

In this first interview, we check in with snowboard Major Lucas Foster:

How’s the big news been treating you, any major changes to your season or 2020 schedule?

It’s been a little hard dealing with it in all honesty, life changed a lot. The outbreak is pretty major in Colorado where I live. But, I will say it’s been really nice resting. It’s put a lot in to perspective just how much we do have during regular life. The season pretty much came to a halt within 2 days. We were done competing for the most part anyway, but some filming opportunities fell through and snowboarding as a whole is on hold for us.

What does plan B look like for the next couple of months?

Plan B for me will be snowboarding in the back country a lot when it’s safe, hopefully getting creative and still getting content and of course staying home a lot especially while the outbreak is at its worst.

How are you training at home or in an isolated setting?

I have some random gym equipment that I can get creative with and actually have a lot of options when it comes to keeping my physical strength at its best. I feel like my body will get a lot stronger in this period so I’m stoked on that.

When you’re not training what are you doing with the down time?

Lately, I’ve been just trying to learn about random stuff as much as possible. I listen to tons of podcasts, try to do projects around my house, set goals for the future and start on new projects that are unrelated to snowboarding.

What’s the go to snack you’ve stocked up on?

I didn’t stock up on tons of snacks, mainly just meats and produce. I like cooking big meals. But anyone that knows me well knows I stocked up on seltzer water.

Be honest, what’s in the Netflix que…binging any bad tv or movies?

I don’t really watch any Netflix in all honesty, but I have a lot of podcasts on the que from some of my favorite skaters and snowboarders and some videos on Viceland. They always have crazy stuff that interests me.

Any advice for people struggling to stay focused on training right now?

This is a great time for all of us to reflect on life and just connect with ourselves and others. We all can learn a lot during these crazy times that will help us in everyday life. Most importantly this is a great time for us to just chill after a long long season, we rarely get to just do nothing and give our bodies and minds a rest. Sometimes you gotta do that first. to ride or train better too.

What are some other productive things you can work on at home? (cleaning your room, yoga, etc.)

I have some career goals outside of snowboarding that I’m going to give more attention to and I’m also planning on just getting smarter with off snow training methods.

Thanks Lucas! Look out for more Off Duty interviews coming soon!
