West Virginia in search of the elusive National Championship title.
Dante Silva charges out of the gate with Drake Barron in
tow. Drake went on to win the Cat 1 19-25 Amateur title.
Bruce Klein has just been coming off of a shoulder injury
and looking as fast as when he left the game. The stars would not align for
Bruce this weekend as he took a spill on the same shoulder, re-injuring it,
forcing him to sit out for finals.
Zach Gareis’ expression upon looking straight down the hill
into the next section.
Zach leads a pack of riders down the steepest part of the
track known as the “Wild Zone.”
Charlie Harrison jumps out of the woods with race favorite, Neko
Mulally hot on his heels.
Nik, Charlie, & Neko (R to L) take the lift up. Each run
on the 1500’ side of the mountain took something out of you.
The following day, the 15-16 year old Juniors competed for
their title. The top qualifier, Matt Sterling suffered a flat tire partway down
the course. He kept charging hard and still salvaged a 2nd place! He
also placed 2nd in Dual Slalom the night before behind teammate,
Dante Silva.
Austin Dooley would cross the line in 6th. Happy
to be in one piece after crashing twice in his race run.
Titus Nicholson was a favorite going into the race as the
wet, rooty tracks suit him It was not meant to be when Titus took a crash and
dislocated his shoulder along with some potential AC tears.
Charlie Harrison would seed 3rd behind the two
favorites, showing he was right there on pace.
Trevor Boldi looked to be enjoying himself on track all
weekend. He ended up 19th in finals.
Nik Nestoroff threw down a 10th in seeding, but
would improve to a 5th come race day! Very impressive for his first
year in Pro.
Steve Walton would slide right in behind Trevor Boldi at 20th
place.
Matt Driscoll out of New Hampshire pulled off an impressive 3rd
place, showing that there’s some good talent and good riding in New England.
Dante Silva injured his hand, but came out to cheer on
teammates and friends with his father (Left) and friend Tyler
Ervin (Right).
Zach Gareis backed up his number 1 qualifying spot by going
faster by more than 7 seconds over the competitors. Congratulations to Zach on
his national title!
Charlie rallied down the hill to take 1st
position with 2 riders left to go. Luca Shaw came down next and Charlie
remained the fastest. Last rider on the hill, Neko Mulally then came down,
edging Charlie out by .5 of a second. So close!
