Thomas began riding at age four and scored his first AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship at Loretta Lynn’s in 2003 and subsequently added three additional titles to his resume. Thomas will be racing the Amateur All-Star Class 2012 Monster Energy Cup at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium on October 20 for the Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green team. He finished sixth overall at last year’s Monster Energy Cup, scoring 8-5 finishes in the two Main Event format. Covington is one of 22 top amateur riders at this year’s event that will represent the next generation of racers as they compete on the world’s biggest stage.

For those who haven't heard your name yet, who are you and how did you get involved in Moto?
I'm Thomas Covington and I was born and raised in the small town of Vernon, AL. I started riding when I was 4 years old and I was 5 years old when I won my first national championship at Lorreta Lynn's in the PW 50 class. Since then I've won many championships, moved to California and now ride for Kawasaki Monster Energy Team Green.

Take us through the 2012 season – what were your goals and how did you do?
I didn't get to race as many races as I had planned because of a knee injury, so Mammoth and Lorreta Lynn's were my only races. I didn't do as well as I had planned because of crashes and a little bit of bad luck, but I'm fired up and ready to go for the Monster Energy Cup and Minio's.

What are your plans for the remainder of the season and 2013?
I plan on racing the Monster Energy Cup and the Minio's in November. As for 2013 I plan on racing every race possible and staying healthy.

How long have you been on Team Green Kawasaki and how do you feel about the Team?
I've been on Team Green for 6 years now and I have loved every minute of it! I wouldn't be where I am today without all the guys from Kawasaki, Traxxas, Fox and Pro Circuit.

Who are your biggest influences?
My biggest influences would have to be my dad, Johnny Omara, and Ricky Carmichael. Those guys help me out a lot and are there for me if I ever need any help.

What other sports do you do when you're not riding?
I drive my Traxxas Slash RC car almost as much as I ride, I'm thinking about switching over to professional RC car racing!!

If you could invent a flavor of Monster, what would it be?
They already have every flavor I could ever dream of!
