Max Markolf

This week's athlete of the week is Max Markolf. Max has been very busy winning national titles and training with legends like James Stewart.

What are some of your recent accomplishments?
By far, my biggest accomplishment this year was winning my first national title at Oak Hill in the 85/150 14-16 stock class. I also did well at all of my qualifiers for Loretta’s this year including winning my regional. It is such a good feeling to see your hard work pay off! I would also have to say another accomplishment this year has been being on James Stewart’s Seven MX team. It is truly an honor to work with him and I am so thankful for the opportunity to learn from such an icon in this sport. Another big moment this year was having the opportunity to be apart of and involved with the action sports nutritional bar called A3. Check it out at your local sports store or see me at the next national for a sample!

What are your plans/goals for the remainder of the season?
Well I’ve been training for Loretta’s which comes up here in a couple weeks! I’ve put some changes in my training program here and there and it’s been working great for me. My plan is to be on the top of the podium and to represent my sponsors the best way I can!

What other sports do you do in the off season?
There’s really not an “off season” as an amateur. You’re always training and getting prepared for the next race. When I’m not riding or racing, I’ll go hit up some mountain bike trails with my brother Will, road bike a little, hit up the lake, wakeboard with some friends and just relax mostly.

Have you had to overcome any challenges that made riding an obstacle at times? (i.e. injuries, support) Yea, riding injured is definitely rough but you work so hard to prepare for a race, that sometimes you have to tough it out. For example, at spring nationals this year I had some great finishes including a win at Oak Hill and five days later during the first moto at Freestone, I had a gnarly crash. I went from the top of the podium one day to the back of an ambulance the next. That is tough, but those are the times when you just have to battle through it, heal and start over. My brother Will often says I don’t know the word no…sometimes that is how I get through those types of obstacles!

Who would you like to thank?
Most definitely, I have to thank my savior, Jesus Christ. Also, Seven MX, Troy Lee Designs, Pro Circuit, Oakley, Monster Army, Renegade Fuels, Europa Sports, A3 Bar, FTI Suspension, Hinson, Roost MX, Pro Taper, Dunlop, All Safe 1, GoPro, Hookit, Privateer Connection, CRF Stuff, Bike Source, Hagar, Vortex Ignitions, Hyperlite, DT1 Filters, Adams Performance, Club MX, my parents and last but never least, my mechanic, Justin Hopson aka JHOP.
